Welcome to the RDHS Local & Family History Wiki! A wiki is a living, changing, user-created encyclopedia and with your help, we're building the most extensive hoard of info about the area anywhere!

The RDHS Wiki covers an area of the Central Tablelands of New South Wales encompassing approximately 1.6 million acres or 6,500 kilometres2. Roughly, this area is bounded by the villages of Capertee, Glen Davis, Widden, Baerami, Wollar, Cooyal, Cudgegong, Crudine, and Sofala, and includes within this area Bylong, Lue, Ilford, Glen Alice, Bogee, Rylstone, and Kandos.

Membership to the wiki is open to anyone and is free to do. After joining the wiki it is necessary to apply to become a writer for the wiki. This is a simple process and is done by clicking the Apply to Be a Writer icon on the upper left hand side of each page on the wiki and then providing a short description of your research interests. Once a writer, a member can edit and add pages on the wiki. Editing pages requires no technical skills and, as the wiki, stores all previous versions of all pages, the page can always be restored to a previous version if needed.

The information on the wiki can be accessed a number of different ways. A table of contents is available on the wiki which provides links to the main subjects covered within the wiki. Also available is an index to all pages which allows users to browse the wiki. It is also possible to search the content of all the pages on the wiki by using Google with the following syntax:

site:rdhswiki.com your search term

For example site:rdhswiki.com Boer War

The wiki already has pages for more than 1,500 individuals and families, 700 localities and 400 rural properties. It also has many other pages relating to a wide variety of subjects connected to the area. This number continues to grow almost daily. The information on each page is also being updated and added to on a regular basis as members add what information they have. This can be in the form of photographs as well as text.

The versatility of the RDHS Local & Family History Wiki makes it able to adapt as needed. Users can create pages relating to whatever their interest in the area is. This could be as varied as the geological or meteorological record, flora and fauna, or human habitation. In fact anything associated with the area can be included. This flexibility helps users create a valuable and wide ranging resource for the area.

If you wish to avoid seeing the advertisements on this wiki please use Mozilla’s FireFox web browser using the AdBlock Plus plugin and appropriate filter subscription. This removes all adds from the page. Unfortunately the new Firefox version 4.0.1 appears to be incompatible with Wetpaint Wikis. It is advisable to use Firefox version 3x.

If you would like to be notified of any changes to the wiki as they occur please activate the RSS Feed which can be found on the UPDATES page.

You can check latest additions via the UPDATES above. You can post any queries, comments or suggestions in the forum. There is a help section at WetPaint Wiki here

Remember the RDHS Local & Family History Group meets at the Cottage Museum on the last Sunday of each month 10 am – 3 pm.

Wiki Theory 101

Wikis are sites which can be edited and added to by anyone who signs up. The idea is that information improves over time. So if you upload information, others can add their information or photographs to relevant pages.
